The America Japan Society (AJS, a general incorporated association) was founded in Tokyo in 1917 to deepen mutual understanding and promote friendly relations between the United States and Japan. AJS is one of the oldest Japanese private entities for interactive activities between Japan and the US. The Society currently has about 650 individual members and about 100 corporate members. Today, under the leadership of President Ichiro Fujisaki, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.S., we have seen a 50 percent increase in the number of younger and female members in the last three years.
We celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2017, inviting the Emperor and Empress, the Prime Minister and his wife, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his wife, and the President of Keidanren to the ceremony and reception. We have various activities including symposia, forums, and a New Year's party at the U.S. ambassador's residence, as well as timely lectures and discussions by distinguished speakers from Japan and the United States.
一般社団法人日米協会は、1917年（大正６年）激動する国際情勢の中、日米両国の有識者たちによって創立された日本で最も歴史と伝統のある日米民間交流団体です。日本とアメリカの相互理解を深め、友好関係を現在、約650名の個人会員と約100社の法人会員が加入しています。今日、藤崎一郎会長(元駐米大使)の下、この3年間に若手と女性の会員の方のご入会が5割増えました。
100周年を祝う式典やレセプションでは、天皇皇后両陛下、総理夫妻、外務大臣夫妻、経団連会長などが列席されました。協会では、各界で活躍する日米両国の講師による時宜を得た講演会や討論会、シンポジウムやフォーラム、アメリカ大使公邸での新年会などの幅広い交流活動を行っています。

日米協会の活動
米国大使公邸レセプション
米国大使公邸において、駐日米国大使着任歓迎会や送別会、ガーデンパーティーなどを開催。 Annual party at the U.S. Ambassador's residence to welcome or farewell U.S. Ambassador in Japan.
月例会
各界で活躍する日米両国の講師による講演会や対談を毎月開催。 Lectures and dialogues by well-known American or Japanese speakers on timely issues. English interpretation is available.
Happy Hour
協会の集会スペースを活用した会員の親睦交流会の開催。Happy Hour is a gathering of the Society members for the purpose of socializing.
飲む二ケーション
毎回様々なテーマで集い、会員同士の親睦を深める。アメリカ商工会議所とのコラボ企画も開催。Nomu-nication in collaboration with ACCJ on the various themes.
アメリカボウル大会
高校生を対象にしたクイズ大会。アメリカの歴史・文化・芸術・地理・政治・経済・日米関係などについての知識を、英語での質問やゲームを通して競い合う。America Bowl is a quiz competition about American topics for Japanese high school students.
Visit & Study Japan
日本に関する研究を行う米国大学院生に対して日本での短期間研究滞在を助成する奨学金プログラム。VSJ program provides financial support to the U.S. graduate students who study about Japan or U.S.-Japan relations.
NGRT
40歳未満の日米の若者が、六本木ヒルズクラブに集まり英語で議論する会員制の会合｡ Monthly meeting for under age of 40 Americans and Japanese to meet each other discussing issues of their interest in English.
金子堅太郎賞
草の根レベルで長年にわたり日米関係に貢献した人に贈られる賞。The Award is given to those who worked for long years to promote people-to-people exchanges between U.S. and Japan.
学生向けイベント
法人企業への訪問や、学生が社会で活躍する社会人や、アメリカ人、外交官らと話しをする機会がある。
Visits to corporate companies and opportunities for students to talk to working professionals, Americans, and diplomats.
米国研究者の集い
米国大使館の支援によって日本の大学院生が米国に短期派遣され研究するプログラム。American Studies Grant Program is for Japanese graduate students to research in U.S. (short-term).
